People sometimes tell me (in a don’t-take-this-as-praise kinda way) how much they love the idea of what I do in my spare time. No, I don’t mean eating cake with my amusing offspring – I mean writing about cars.
These innocent souls have a delightfully romantic picture of the process: coming up with ideas, pitching them, shooting and then writing the copy and getting positive feedback. Idyllic and nothing like what really happens, but why destroy their positive mental picture? I’m kidding of course: this work is a lot of fun.
If you have ever dreamed about doing something like this, then today might be your lucky day.
Friend and all-round good guy Phil Bell is looking for a full-time writer at Classic Cars magazine. Phil says:
If you’re an experienced motoring magazine journalist with a passion for old cars backed up with deep knowledge there could be a job for you on the original classic car magazine.
The role available will depend on the experience and expertise of the successful candidate, and this full-time position is based at our office in Peterborough.
If you have what it takes, send copies of your three best pieces of work, three ideas for must-read features and a CV to Phil Bell, Classic Cars magazine, Bauer Media, Lynch Wood, Peterborough PE2 6EA.
Closing date is October 24.
This is a very sweet opportunity for someone. Phil is a lovely bloke and a top editor, and the mag is very respected. Anyone getting the job will have an opportunity to put their unique spin on things, without letting the side down.
If you think you might have what it takes, then get in touch. Worst that can happen is they say no, and all writers should be well used to that at this stage!

So one would have 11 months to prepare this CV then…..!
A few years ago I was offered a journo role on a classic car mag. Alas they appeared to think pro bono would pay the mortgage so I ended up taking the merchants coin. I've added it to the pile of regrets awaiting my old age!

Aha! You spotted the deliberate mistake on their part. I think they are still taking applications but I will check and report back
OK, they have updated their website now. New deadline is October 24th.
