Always Learning

In the hunt for interesting cars to shoot during our upcoming US trip this September (Jamie Lipman and I), a friend sent me some pictures of a newly-restored Devin Porsche. The Devin featured 356 running gear in a svelte body and chassis. The car is exceptionally atractive. Really – look at how pretty this car is. Great choice of colours too. I’ll be finding out more about these cars as the trip gets closer, will post more details as and when.

In other news, Englishman and 911 hot rodder Rob Dickinson has unveiled the latest incarnation of his 911, featuring a full-blown Ninemeister 3.8 motor in a lightweight early body. Looks great, though I must say I preferred it on 15s. Actually, I preferred the previous incarnation full stop as I think it captured all the key points of what is so good about modified old cars. For me that mostly means simplicity. I hope to see the new one in the metal when we are out on the West Coast; I’m sure it’s very impressive.

I recently rode in Teo Amoroso’s reborn IROC rep running just about the same motor (at Silverstone), and Teo blew the doors off everything that wasn’t a racing supercar on slicks, even with us two non-lightweights in it! Sweet.

Here’s a pic of Rob’s – more details here: 911 Porsche hot rod.

Yeah baby. 425 bhp is a lot of power to get to the tarmac, so at least the bigger wheels give you grip and stiff sidewalls.
