Bankruptcy Beckons

The US Government has finally accepted the inevitable and is preparing to put GM into bankruptcy protection next week, to complete a major restructuring. The American people will own over 50% of GM Gen II.

The time taken to reach this point is both good and bad; at least it has given the European subsidiaries time to get themselves geared up for sale as potential-laden prospects in their own right, rather than parts of a terminally ill patient, dying of development starvation.

GM Europe makes some good cars, and deserves to keep on keeping on. Hopefully their first big customer will be GM America who need decently built, fuel efficient products ASAP. Why the US bosses thought their people wouldn’t buy European product is hard to understand – they can certainly fit into the cars, and US car enthusiasts have been screaming out for decent European GM and Ford models for years.

Get it approved for sale in the USA and in the showrooms at sensible prices, under new management and free from the interminable financial baggage of the past. Can’t do any worse than the domestic stuff did, that’s for sure.
