Dominic Delaney at Specialist Vehicle Preparations, the Porsche independent and race car fabrication workshop in Droitwich, just sent me some pictures of his first Boxster race car build. The car has come together quickly and without drama, and is said to be lots quicker than a standard car. Looks pretty good to me.
Dom reckons they are working on number two at the minute and it should be on another level entirely: bigger budget so fully dipped, lighter and 100% optimised under the regulations. The first track test of the car shown here is at Mallory Park this Sunday; should be good if it stays dry.
The Boxster race series is the brainchild of my buddy Andy Davies. Andy’s son, Matt, won the Porsche 924 championship a while back – see my previous piece on the subject, shot at Oulton Park: 924s: Real Racers. Being a poor student rather than a rich racing driver, there was nothing much affordable for Matt to move on to after the 924s, so Andy came up with the Boxster proposal. The BRSCC loved the idea and the series kicks off this year.
Jamie and I have been waiting to shoot Nick Hull’s very pretty Viper Green Boxster racer (above) built by Newbridge Motorsport for a while now but diary clashes, other events and most recently the weather have conspired against us. We are on target to get the pics in the bag in early February, so watch out for the upcoming feature in 911 & Porsche World magazine.

I think Boxster racing will be very popular… the roll cage gives the Boxster a very purposeful look!
