Sitting here studying guitars for sale on eBay and watching Russell Brand’s show on Channel 4. Thank God, Brand is back!
I wasn’t always the biggest fan of Russell’s radio show, or his intermittent TV chat show stuff, but his stand up has always been very good, and the Ponderland show is excellent. Apparently (from what the papers say), I was one of the very few people listening live to the Russell Brand/Jonny Ross radio show that fateful night, but I found it unsurprising given the personalities involved. It was less edgy than some of Chris Evans’ stuff – like the one where they got naked in the studio, classic radio broadcasting.
One of the best things about starting a new year is that we can put all that Ross/Brand crapology behind us, welcome Wossy back and start turning Radio 2 on again from time to time, a station I haven’t listened to since the grandaughter-shagging sh*t hit the fan. R2 bosses had better not screw with the format of the Saturday morning show, or I can imagine people deserting the Beeb in their droves to listen to XFM, decent internet radio or whatever else they can find. Look at what R2 did to Parky’s old slot, sticking Michael Ball into one of the best shows of the week – TERRIBLE decision. Sundays on R2 are a washout now, no more radio playing while pottering in the garage.
For those of us who could care less about the recession, the new-style Jonathon Ross radio show will be one of the real issues of the year ahead!
