California Sunshine flies by

by John on October 4, 2009

We’ve been in California for ten days now. Today (Sunday) is out last full day before we fly home tomorrow, after interviewing the Chief Pelican and dropping the 911 SC off at the shippers down in Compton, LA.

The mood in the camp is subdued – partly because our camp is in a Motel6 in Ventura and not in John Gray’s house up in lovely San Ramon – but also partly because it is difficult to imagine how we are going to top this trip in the future. It has been crazy busy, but big-time entertaining, some great cars and people added to our list of US-based friends, and some great ideas added to the bank for future trips.

Working in California light is great: photographic and literary approaches emerge that might not even be possible back in England. I hope we can retain some of that positive CA vibe for the work we have lined up back in the UK. It’s been a great ten days!

John,

Tracey and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and catching up with the J boy once again.
Your enthusiasm for the CA lifestyle is a wonder, I am sure it will take you several trips before you satiate your curiosity. Hopefully between you and Jamie you can supersede the endless articles about hotrod early 911's and apply some journalistic bent to the other aspects of our car hobby that interest us all.

Regards
Hayden & Tracey

Thanks Hayden, hooking up with you guys was a high point of the trip for me. Really great to finally get a proper impression of the quality of the operation there.

Looking forward to seeing you both again in a few months, and keeping up with all the cool stuff that happens in the meantime.

Cheers for everything & talk to you soon!

No worries John. I already primed my old man and bought myself some extra assembly slack on the completion of his car – by a promise a mag article……. dont feel compelled!
I picked up the tulipwood dash inlay today, 'kin awesome. I love the indulgence in this car. If only I could work out suitable door panel treatment so I could bring it all to completion.
I was half expecting Jamie to show up again in a new SH car on Monday, I was relieved not to see that happen and hear you both got home safely.

All sounds great mate – we'll be there for sure. It was a struggle to leave, made slightly easier by the knowledge that we'd be back in a few short months, and that we are working towards a future where we have lots more time on your side of the world. I think we're both pretty sure of that!
