This Sunday is the Classics at the Castle event at Hedingham Castle in Essex.
The Hedingham gathering has been running for a few years now, and the organisers have secured a pair of historic Martini race cars for this year’s show: a 1974 Baby Turbo, the one which placed second at the 1974 Le Mans, and a Targa Florio 911 RSR: winner of the event in 1973. There is also a longtail 908 rolling out: all very nice stuff! Here’s a pic of 2009 from Mike Roberts on Flickr:
The weather forecast for the event looks good, with sunny intervals predicted by the BBC weather website. I’m not attending myself, as we have a young friend’s birthday party this Sunday, show and shine meets are not really my thing and the organisers have put a pre-’73 fence around ‘the UK classic Porsche community’, which doesn’t really get me going either. Nothing to do with the cars obviously, but I wonder how many other later car owners will also make alternative plans.
That said, targeting a particular niche is fair enough and I certainly hope the event is a success. Anyone putting themselves out to get Porsche owners together deserves to see some positivity in return, and there are enough pre-’73 folks out there to make it work if it’s been sold to them properly.
Full details are on the beautifully designed website. Tickets are £20 a car + 2 people, with extra bods a fiver and kids under 12 going free. Pray for sun!
