Crawling through the USA

OK, not crawling but the Elvis Costello track came to mind.

Car photographer and good friend Jamie Lipman is currently wending his way from Chicago to California on a Honda Cub. That is 55mph maximum top speed on a downhill slope, with a decent wind behind you and your running shoes on. Hats off to Jamie for taking this on, as it’s a hell of a long way at the double-nickel.

Having said that, the lower speed is an attraction in itself: on a bike you are highly sensitised to the environment so many more influences have a bearing. The little Cub should (fingers crossed) be reliable too, which adds its own pleasure.

Latest pics suggest James is falling in with the right kinda company to make it a real adventure. Here he is having a goat skull attached to the front – they obviously thought the headlight didn’t have enough to do already with the milk crate on there.
