So I sold my Golf GTi to buy a camera – who wouldn’t think that was a good idea?!
Having looked for a few weeks at what else was out there, I plumped for the Nikon D300, which is quite a step up from my venerable and much-loved D70s which may now also have to go, though I will probably get a little Coolpix to replace it if it goes.
I have a camera on my phone, and apparently it is a good one, but really I don’t see the point of stupid flat-lens phone cams. I’d rather take a decent compact out and about and have pics that you could do something with, if the desire took hold of you.
First impressions of the D300 are that I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing, but that it’s an immensely powerful tool. I am really looking forward to finding out what photography is all about with this blistering bit of kit at my disposal. Here’s one of my first pics on it, not even read the destructions yet and I already love it. This is Orla “warming her hands in front of the fire” after a bath – i.e. she is stalling going to bed while I mess with the camera. Heavy saturation under flash, but it is lovely with no flash – interesting!
