Early Targa Bargain at Kundensport

by John on August 26, 2010

When we were out at Ventura for the Porsche parts meet last year, überbuddy Bob Aines introduced Jamie and me to Hans Lapine, son of Tony and a serious Porsche dude in his own right.

Hans runs Kundensport, based in LA. He had some totally incredible stuff on his stand, including a 917 in the throes of full restoration, a tidy 935 and a pair of wicked 914/6s, including a Dove Grey car that we simultaneously voted our star of the show. He is also responsible for one of the most interesting, beautifully finished and mental hot rods I have yet seen: and it’s not a Porsche. One day I’ll do a feature on it.

Fast forward to now and Hans is selling what looks like a very tasty 1973 911 E Targa shell in Silver, all the bodywork done and ready to receive the refreshed mechanicals from, as he puts it: “that rustbucket you always wanted to restore”. You can just see the Teener and the 917 in these iPhone pics.

When I think about the cost to restore a rusty 911 Targa shell here in Europe, the $11k Hans is asking for this ready-to-rock example is peanuts. Someone needs to get down there and check it out. Then bite his hand off!
