Happy New Year!

by John on January 2, 2009

So 2009 is finally here – the year where many believe the world is going to come crashing down around us. I’m a bit more optimistic: it will be tricky for some, but with a challenge comes an opportunity, and we should always embrace opportunity.

I am looking forward to 2009 more than any year in recent memory, and I mean that most sincerely. I don’t think I have ever started a year in such a positive frame of mind, and I can’t wait to get cracking on putting my plans into action. By the end of the year, I should be in quite a different place: hopefully with a lot of the long-awaited building done here at home, with fewer cars and no projects(!), and with a very different work landscape. I would love to finish the year fully self-employed, and am working in that direction starting from now.

That’s not to say I won’t be giving Glass’s my full attention – I most certainly will, as the additions we have planned for our consumer website are very exciting – but I aim to clock on and off religiously for a change, and point my spare time towards some very specific freelance targets. Gone are the days where I logged on to the work computer after 5.30 PM. Interestingly, some long-standing guys at Glass have recently taken voluntary redundancy. Maybe it’s time I looked into that too.

My three main aims for the year are:

1: Get my garage and office built

2: Get to the gym at least twice a week (been letting it slide last few months)

3: Double my freelance income

I am going to finish my Writer’s Bureau course (10 years late) and perhaps develop new skills and pick up some new outlets that way. I will finish off the website projects I have promised some friends, and then pull the plug on my web building, to concentrate on writing.

My eBay sales will continue to be busy in 2009. I also want to launch some new merchandise lines, for IB and in other areas. Plus I am starting the guitar with Ciara next week too, so this is bound to be a very busy year. Let’s hope I can keep up!

What are your plans for 2009? I’d  love to hear about them. Best of luck to you and yours, whatever you get up to.
