Ice Ice Baby

We woke up this morning to find that a couple of inches of snow had fallen during the night. I’d gone to bed at 2am when there had been a thick coat of frost over everything, and that plus snow is a lethal cocktail. Did it slow anyone down? What do you think?!

The big Landcruiser was called upon to drag one of my father-in-law’s patients (in his brand-new BMW 5-series diesel) up a steep and packed-down, snow-covered hill, which it managed with great aplomb. Considering I couldn’t even stand up on the road there without sliding over, that was pretty impressive.

You don’t mind getting stuck when you hear of those who have not been so lucky. A friend’s 20 year-old cousin was killed on Saturday, when his Fiesta hit a tree. I saw the car afterwards (it passed me on a flatbed while I was walking the dog) and it was utterly destroyed: roof flattened down to the tops of the doors. Such a shame to lose a kid who had it all going for him. Recently, a local lady wrote her Suzuki Vitara off, after colliding with the scenery whilst on the slippy stuff, and my neighbour destroyed his tidy Golf GT TDi, when someone coming the other way turned right dead in front of him – a lucky escape.

Another neighbour had what was described as a low-speed slide into a ditch. Make your own mind up on that one!
