My Podcasts

Sadly for me, I don’t write about classic cars full time. My day job is as Older Car and Consumer Values Editor for Glass’s Guide.

Glass's Guide: hot off the press

The Guide is a set of used car values used by the motor industry: car dealers, traders, insurers, lenders, Customs and Excise and so on. It is the UK equivalent of Kelley Blue Book. Glass’s is part of the EurotaxGlass group. Our department values cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and caravans.

Half of my job is spent valuing ‘Glass’s Guide to Car Values: 1992 to 1998 and Modern Classics’, and half is spent creating and maintaining values for our online part-exchange service, where you can value your car as a trade-in against another car. I also answer car buyer queries from the website and maintain a blog at both the consumer site here and the trade site here. You can read my older car editorials and market trends here.

Glass's Guide through the years

We also do occasional podcasts to add to the editorial content. Our podcasting is still in its infancy, but it features some good hints and tips from my twenty-plus years in the motor trade, and some great newbie questions from my good friend and estimable business colleague, Mr Tim Brown. I have rehosted the podcasts here, should you wish to have a listen; work only resource space to keep the last two (current and one previous) and we need the library hosted permanently for iTunes.

NB: I listen to all of these after the fact and immediately want to re-edit. Stick with them through any boring moments, as there is some top info in there.

Podcast Downloads

Podcast 1: Tim Brown (EurotaxGlass Group Internet Business Manager) and I discuss how Glass’s Guide make their values, how the car market works and some chat about buying and selling. This is the intro podcast and we are very straight in it, plus it is too long with to many topics. Later ones are better. Download the ‘How Glass’s Guide Works’ podcast here.

Podcast 2: Tim and I discuss buying a car at auction. Hints and tips for research, what to do before and during the sale and afterwards – what happens once you have bid and won. Bit waffly but some good info in there. Download it here.

Podcast 3: Tom and I talk about buying a car privately. We don’t cover every possible angle, but it’s a nice conversational piece that shares some good information.Good job Tim is there to keep me from wandering off topic. Download the ‘Buying Cars Privately’ podcast here.

Podcast 4: This is just me, talking about three top tips for putting a private sale ad together. Some tried and tested advice on getting results in private sale. I mean real advice writen by someone who uses this to get top results. This is the most recent podcast at time of writing (21/09/09). I did this podcast and spent a week wondering why I am not just buying and selling myself – buying and selling is fun and I am good at it. Plus it’s lots less hassle! Download the ‘How to Write a Good Car For Sale Ad’ podcast here.
