Not Just a Walk in the Park

by John on December 28, 2008

My big boss is walking to the South Pole this year to raise funds for cancer research. It’s not the first time he has done something like this – he has raised thousands before for the same charity – but he really needs everyones’ support for what they are doing.

The website is here for more details and regular spinvox updates. He is a hell of a guy, ex-MD of Porsche Cars GB and well worth supporting; remember every penny raised goes to charity. If they succeed, Kevin’s son Matt will be a British record breaker – youngest guy ever to walk to the South Pole.

Come on, give them something for cancer research, no matter how small it seems. It’s good karma and it’s Christmas!

This from Kevin’s justgiving page, where you can donate as you see fit:

After losing my younger sister to leukaemia I wanted to do something to help others who suffered from the disease. In 2006 by walking unsupported to the North Pole generously sponsored by a lot of people I was able to raise almost £100,000 to fund the construction of a new ward at the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre (see photos on www.southpole2009.com).
Now, with my son Matt (see www.justgiving.com/mattgaskell) we are aiming to walk unsupported to the geographical South Pole. Pulling 80kg sledges for up to 300 kilometres in average temperatures of -40C, typical winds of 50 knots at an elevation of 10,000 feet will be a real challenge. We are probably the first father / son team to attempt this route and at 18 Matt will be the youngest person ever to complete it.

Go for it Kevin & Matt!!
