I’ve had some straight-ahead play in my steering for a while. I checked the wheel bearings and tightened them a bit, then checked the balljoints and they were OK. Still had the play – not bad but was getting worse over time.

I decided to take it across to my mate Dom Delaney who has just started his own Porsche independent near Droitwich (http://www.specialistvehiclepreparations.com). Dom is a long time Porsche race mechanic and is working/has worked on some great stuff: in Finland with Tommi and Kimi, on the ice with Bjorn Waldegaard, Williams F1, Ralliart, DOME, Tuthills etc etc. Anyway he is a big Porsche head so good to see him getting in the game.
We jacked it up and had a play – play being the operative word. The play is in the rack, so a replacement steering rack required. Good old Tripe has it sorted, so we’ll be changing that soon.
While I was there, Porsche World turned up to do a piece on the main man, so more pics of Orange in there at some stage. We’ll be doing quite a bit on the car together now, sorting out some bits and bobs. Pretty good drive there and back at moderate pace…
