Porsche 904 across America

by John on August 20, 2010

The trans-America drive is something all petrolheads dream of. Landing on a sunny coast, ocean breeze in the hair, you sit into a cool car and then blast off: hauling ass across the USA in a flurry of sights and adventures. My good buddy Arjen has now done that twice! Count me extremely jealous.

Arjen’s first trip was the famous Bos and Bas expedition in Mustang: the battered but sparky 911 with the rough-and-ready centre fill tank, or ‘mortar hole in the bonnet’ as Leonard so succinctly put it. That was an epic trip set to be repeated in reverse, until his shippers sent the car east from the east coast instead of west. It now lives in Amsterdam! For their second trip, Bos and Bas needed something a bit special.

An accomplished entrepreneur, Bos is a guy who always has an answer, but this one surprised all of us. He commissioned Chuck Beck to build one of his famous 904 replicas with a 3.6 in the back. The boys picked the car up in Georgia in June and headed west.

The trip sounds incredible and the car is a surefire feature weapon – can’t wait to see it. In the best Team America: World Police fashion, here’s a video montage of some highlights!

Cool video! Was this car by chance at the 24 Hours of Daytona? I saw a silver 904 parked in the infield – coincidence?

Don't think so Murph. Beck has built a few of these now and I know of one or two real ones on the roads out there.
