Porsche Boxster Heated Windscreen

by John on December 8, 2010

Good buddy Dominic Delaney has just taken delivery of his first batch of heated windscreens for the Porsche Boxster.

Dom’s company, Specialist Vehicle Preparations, is one of the very few independent Porsche specialists in Worcestershire. His handiwork finished third in this year’s Porsche Boxster Championship, at the hands of a complete novice who had never raced before. The SVP Boxster was the only car to finish every round, which says something about the quality of preparation carried out.

Here’s a video of the screen in action. Youtube have compressed the daylights out of it, but the message is clear in the end (groan). I’ll get some higher quality frosty vid online soon.

These pics may tell the story better. Top one shows that combination of cold air and cold screen, which makes it impossible to shift smeary mist. Add heated glass and you get the second picture in under a minute: a nice clear shot of the interior. This obviously works fabulously on ice and frost. I may need to get one for the Subaru!

Note that, in the second pic, you can see the line of damp on the left that denotes the end of the heating element. We didn’t just dry the glass! The heater is not on in these shots either.

My 911 has a heated screen so it is great to see them available for Boxsters. Autoglass recently quoted me £920 to change a Boxster screen for standard glass, so the Specialist Vehicle Preparations price of £650 fitted including the loom and relay, wired to the proper switch, seems a bargain.

The very smart SVP demo Porsche Boxster seen here is for sale now too, fitted with the heated screen. Call Dominic on 01299 251152 for more details of the car or the screens.
