I’ve got work everywhere at the minute. Absolutely great but keeps a brain too busy to blog. So let’s combine some of what I’m being asked in text and pics with a blog post, to keep the site cooking along. Here we go.
I dropped in to see a trade contact last week: Peter Head at Hagley Cars in Worcs. Peter has a nice 968 Sport for sale at £7850. I thought I’d take some pics and blog them.
It seems a nice car: 130k on it with brakes done recently and a cambelt 20k miles ago. Lots of history and I love the colour. I’ve got a real soft spot for good 968s; I’d love to run this around for a few months and do some work with it. Please mention the blog if you get in touch.
Then I had an email from my buddy Vasco Ricardo down in Portugal. Vasco is selling some Recaro seats and what did I think of the prices? I shared some opinion but this is what we’re looking at: Recaro Buckets and S seats.
Vasco’s asking €2900 for the buckets and €1700 for the S seats. I do like a nice S seat.
Next I get a mail from buddy Dominic Delaney at Worcester Porsche Servicing, asking for help on the top-tint Boxster heated windscreens he has just started making. Fully fitted at £599, they’re perfect for replacing a chipped original screen, which in itself would cost just under a grand to do! (Autoglass quoted me this including some discount). Dom’s found a way to send these to Europe for £60 a pair on a pallet, which is also quite interesting.
Next I drop in to Tuthills, to grab some updates news for the Tuthill website news section. Just back from the Morocco International Rally, Fran is washing the desert off Steve Troman’s car and we’re having a chat, when I see Steve has had Bjorn sign the bonnet. That’s a photo opp waiting to happen:
Meanwhile, I’ve got three kids and a Mrs to look after, a dog to mind, a hunt for premises to keep in motion, insurance valuations constantly coming in (lots to catch up on once my printers have sorted the new letterheads), Autocar magazine features to plan, web updates for many clients and the usual Porsche columns and features. I am also still exploring this brokerage idea: selling 911s on behalf of owners who don’t want to do it themselves, so I have been talking to some classic 911 owners, about selling their cars in the next few months. Still got the 964 RS here at £55K ono…
I also started discussing some ideas with 911 & Porsche World editor, Steve Bennett, on subjects for my next US trip, which looks like it might kick off in February. Solo mission this time: bound to be an odd experience. Speaking of my home-from-home, Gray also sent me this pic of his new Harvey Weidman-restored Fuchs, with the customary Peets Cappucino in the center hole. Cupholder for John Gray: there’s an honour for Harvey’s Fuchs!
Finally, something new! I recently invested just under £3K in some mobile photo lighting, whereupon Total 911 commissioned me to do a words and pics shoot, to see how it came out. I had a lot of work to do before it ran and then two days of chasing around like a nutter to fix a tech problem which didn’t get fixed until this week, but anyway: the shoot went well and is in the next issue of the magazine. It’s a good little piece on a very different 911! Here’s a sneak preview of one of my out-takes:
That’s a little scrape off the top of my inbox for a week. So much more goes on, but you have to keep some stuff to yourself. Otherwise where would the scoops and surprises come from?! I did buy another two cars recently though, so I am back up to 13. That’s unlucky; I’d better make it 14, pronto.
