Rennsport Reunion IV: Laguna Seca, October 2011

by John on March 7, 2011

I’d wondered when I was going to the US this year, but that question has just been sorted. Chief Pelican Wayne Dempsey of Pelican Parts (and 959/962 owner) has just announced that Pelican is to be one of the sponsors of Rennsport Reunion IV at Laguna Seca this October.

Rennsport Reunion is a gathering of Stuttgart’s finest racing cars that always brings the Porsche faithful out in droves. Wayne says the event is due to run from October 13th to the 15th. Sunday the 16th is the Porsche Race Car Classic at the Quail in Carmel. No doubt Porsche will bring a stack of cars in for the two events – should be wicked fun! (Update: RR4 is 14-16th October, 2011)

It’s a total no-brainer to have Rennsport IV at Laguna. The track is fun: great elevations but still fairly compact. You can sit in quite a few places and see much of the circuit, so the perfect spot for a show ‘n’ go race event.

As well as top topography, there’s a Porsche density in California that you don’t even find in Germany. I’m sure the event will be well attended by us R Gruppe members, and there’s bound to be a corral at the event for Gruppers and their 911s. I fully intend to drive a 911 I own to the event – more on that later.

Daytona hosted the previous Rennsport and, while the weather was wet (genius understatement there), most people came away happy. How could they not be, with 17 917s in the paddock! I missed the last one but won’t be missing this. Here’s hoping to see a bundle of Classic Porsche Blog fans there!

I've just pulled the trigger on flights. I take it there will be a few Brits travelling out?
