Dries Schouteden has put his ex-Paul Calderbank 1973 2.4E up for sale. Paul has ridden on track with me in the Carrera 3.0, and his old car is a bit of a favourite of mine so I thought I’d blog it. Especially as Dries has uploaded some killer pictures of the car near its current home in Madrid. Check this colourama out:
The ’73 lived in the USA for quite a while, so the body is said to be in pretty good shape. The sublime Chartreuse paint is the original colour: it suits the straight and simple narrowbody to a tee.
It’s had a top end rebuild and recent transmission overhaul, so pretty spot on mechanically. There’s SSIs, Webers, hydraulic tensioners and higher compression: it’s reckoned to be pushing out 185 bhp.
That must be a lot of fun. I drove a good buddy’s immaculate 2.4E a while back, also on SSIs and Webers, and loved it. Must be sweet with a spoonful more power in there. Not that the stock 2.4E is any kind of slouch.
The interior also sounds good, with the correct Recaro seats, a crack-free dash, newly-repaired door pockets and refurbished window cranks.
There is apparently a bit of rust in one sill, and the rest would want a good look too but, at under £20K with full history, it has got to be worth checking out. Dries’ phone number is +34 690 847 011.

John, loved this car when Paul had it for sale, and now again that Dries has it for sale. Really nice color. There is an RS in that color here, near me, and it is a fantastic color. Belongs to Jol Dantzig or his wife (they have 2 .. one is chartreuse and one is white with red trim).
Nice mate. Great colour in the sunshine! Dunno if I could live with it permanently in the cloudy UK though – Orange is tough to beat!
John, I'm looking for 3rd party opinion about that car before I will travel to Spain. Do you know it or know somebody who tell a few words about it? Marcin
Hi Marcin, sounds like that might be a nice trip. I have a few friends down in Madrid but none are Porsche people. I would guess there is some bodywork to do, but I hear you have some good guys in Poland for from-scratch fabrication? Let me know how you get on if you do go – if anyone comes to mind, I will mail you. Cheers, JG
Well I'm seriously thinking of travelling there. Car has interesting price but going there means time and costs and I'm not interested in resto projects. I've been thinking that somebody in UK knows this car from the period before it moved to Spain (a year or two ago). I need rather general opinion if it's solid (bodywork) and sound mechanically. Cheers Marcin
Thanks John for giving a bit more exposure to this car with your well-edited article. It's given me two years of unrefined driving pleasure; what a car! The car's now provisionally sold; thanks to all prospective buyers for their interest.
Mr Dries Schouteden, Is the car still for sale?
Kind Regards
Nuno
