Teenerific: ’73 914 For Sale

by John on December 28, 2009

Every so often you see an almost spotless seventies Porsche for sale and wonder at the condition some of these cars still come up in.

This 1973 914 is a good example: great colour and very clean. OK it is big bumper, but some people like that (I am one). Tiny bit of work left to do in the rear luggage compartment but just look at the rest!

On sale in Denver, Colorado, it’s priced at $14,900 which might be a touch dear, but it is probably negotiable if you seem like the right guy. Give it a couple of years and I think this will have been a very sensible buy.

Alaska Blue metallic, 4k miles since full body resto, 2 litre so decent power and mpg, nice stereo, should be mega-reliable. The interior looks very clean and the presentation appears  flawless. The main thing here is all the hard work has been done, and done well by the looks of it.

I once had a Raleigh Bomber in this colour and went on to buy a Renault 5 Gordini Turbo in the same shade, so I suppose I am slightly biased here. But I still think this little soft top has all the right ingredients for a fun summer holiday car, wrapped up in a unique, depreciation- proof package.

1973 was an interesting year for Porsche: on the cusp of a whole new world with the updated 911s and riding the crest of drivers’ car excellence with the Carrera RS. This is a sweet example of a rare-ish product from a good year at an OK price – must be worth a closer look if you are out that way.  The ‘For Sale’ ad is here on Pelican.
