Met up with long-time car industry expert and friend Denis Keenan at Silverstone today. Here’s a beautiful ’74 911 Carrera from the paddock. Rings a bell with me…
We were meeting at a round of the British F3 championship with a VW race also on the programme. VW hospitality was the name of the game. So here’s a tasty race Scirocco:
Denis runs Kee Resources, a fleet industry information specialist, and keeps his very astute eye on market goings-on, so it was interesting to hear his views on prospects, both short and long term. One thing we both agreed was that defleeting is such a stalled process at the minute, what with huge numbers of contract extensions now the norm, rather than new contracts on new cars (financially-squeezed companies holding onto lease cars for another year) that the current (slighty inflated) auction figures could not be expected to last forever. This will make very interesting study in the months ahead.
Anyway, outside of trade talk we also discussed our mutual love of music. Denis’ dad was Musical Director at STV for many years and his aunt is none other than Dame Cleo Laine. It was great to hear the stories of what sounded like fairly legendary Hogmanay parties at his childhood home in Glasgow. Here’s to the next meet!

I'm not sure if you got my earlier comments but I was friends with Johnny and Cleo in the good old days of the wonderful Dankworth 7,which featured Tony Kinsey on drums and Bil Le Sage on vibes/piano.The Dankworth's were always the nicest couple in the business.
Yes, I was telling Denis. Did you watch the Grappelli video I linked to on my Twitter?
