Have been using WordPress for a while now. Though I love the freeness of it (i.e. no cost), I am not the greatest fan of the software. It’s a PITA to get stuff aligned and stay aligned, and the media manager is no great shakes either – forget your pic going where you want it or text wrapping.
So I am going to have a try of moveabletype and see how that works. Some smart blogs out there using that system and looks like it is worth checking out.
Other software I am trying includes Apple Aperture 2. Having tried Lightroom and not been blown away by it (nice but no revolution), I downloaded Aperture last night and found it immediately satisfying – I can crop for a start. I’ll give it a good try over the next month and see how it works out.
I recently picked up a Nikon D40 kit, to try against my aging D70s. Much as I love the D70s, the D40 has had some killer reviews and is supposed to be a better camera in contrasty light. All the exercise has proven so far, is that I had no idea how to drive the D70 to best effect, and the same is true of the D40!
I am going to sell the 40, and do some training with the 70. The elder statesman has a nicer feel and I think will suit me fine when I learn how to use it properly. I would rather move up to a 300 from here, but will have to see if I can work the 70 hard enough to justify the cost. I’m going to put the money from the D40 sale towards an 18-200 VR lens, and think about selling my 70-300 VR also. Not sure I need that big a tele lens, as I don’t shoot any real volume of motorsport, and that is that I bought it for. Maybe I just need to get out more!
This is the D40 at work, really overcast day:
